A complete relay that is smaller than a Tyco RT series EMR Simple_solid_state_relay_Updated . This design uses a small double sided PCB and some SMD components. Here are the Gerber files SSLR. The recomended mosfets for this design are the PSMN4R3-100PS[1] for supply rails of up to +-50 V absolute maximum, and for supply rails of up to +-75 V, the Fairchild FDB075N15A[1]

Hello Will,
Yes you should be able to replace the electromechanical relay with a solid state relay daughter board. You need to switch the mosfets quickly, so one of the tricks you can use is to wire two of the photovoltaic mosfet drivers in parallel to increase the available current to charge/discharge the mosfet gate capacitance. Make sure the LED for each photovoltaic coupler is fed with its own current limiting resistor. In other words, do not just wire them in parallel because one of the devices will hog most of the current. If you are switching a 2 Ohm load, you will need low rds(ON) mosfets and that generally will mean Hifisonix gate charge. See the Speaker Protection Board presentation on this website for some information about mosfets and how to select an appropriate part. Regards Andrew -
Hi,
I have a dual mono stereo amp capable of pushing 200W into 2Ω load and runs class A (Krell KSA-50). I’m adding Speaker protection through speaker terminal hung boards using the usual UPC1237 chip, a 12vac power feed and a 12vdc 16A Omron relay. I was thinking of replacing the relay with a SSR daughter board. Amps supply rails are +- 45vdc.
Would this SSR board work for this?
Do you or anybody have the pcb already for sale or is the only way to use the gerber files? I just need two.
Do you, or anybody sell completed boards?
My preference is for a completed PCB. I have soldered all my life but have not jumped into surface mount yet.
Has the design been updated at all since 2013? My understanding is there are driver chips now that work much better than opto drive (ESP site).
That might not matter for my use. ESP is not selling to USA because of tariff’s.Thanks for any response. I have so many questions. On a mission to bullet proof my 40 year old amp.

Yes!

Hi Andrew,
Just to be sure. You would use the FDP075N15A?

Hello Claus,
That is a good mosfet so you can use it safely.

Hi Andrew,
Is FDP075N15A-F102 still the best choice for amplifiers with psu +/- 60-70VDC? I was looking at theToshiba TK4R9E15Q5 with 4,9mohm RDSon, but the gatecharge is 96nQ compared to the Onsemi device.
I got the LTspice model for the Toshiba device and can see switching times higher than other devices with app. 70nQ gatecharge. (Don’t have the Spicemodel for the Onsemi device)Would you still use FDP075N15A?

Yes you can use the VOM1271 – it’s an improved replacement

Hi Andrew
TLP191 is apparently EOL. Can Vishay VOM1271 be used as an alternative or do you have a better choice?

Hello Prashant,
What are you confused about? Can you be more specific? -
hi Bonsai,
Can you answer Geirge’s question? I am also confused about the symbol of TLP191. Also any drop in replacements for TLP device? -
Thanks
-
Hello George,
I will take a look over the weekend and come back to you.Regards
Andrew

Hello Bonsai,
I have a question regarding U5, the TLP191. The data sheet shows the pinout as anode pin 1, cathode pin3, cathode pin 4, anode pin6. how doe this pinout match up to you’re schematic?
regards,
George -
Gene,
what is the supply voltage of your amplifier?

Hi Andrew, I need an ssr for a 500 watt/channel into 8 ohm amp, which needs mosfets for up to 100 – 150 volts to be safe and 10 -15 amps.
Do u know such fets which have audio freq linearity ?
Also, do u sell your products in kit form ?
-
Prasi, I do not have anything specifically for the voltages you are mentioning (35 and 70 Volts). However, the PSU +Protect circuit (see the nx-Amplifier write-up) could be used with some modification of the values. I will take a look at it in the next few days and make some proposals.
Can you tell me why you want 35V and 70V?
-
Hi I am looking for a stereo protection board with supplies of 35v and 70 v. Do you have any PCB implementation with SSR with discreet devices for start delay, short circuit and DC protect?
Regards

What about the avago Dual Channel Photovoltaic MOSFET Driver ASSR-V622-002E ?
-
Yes that’s also an option as well.

Sorry the link in the Doc is not active. It will be a link to the Gerber file in the actual post. I will update it later today.

Beautifully compact – A1, but the link (if that was intended) to the Gerbers is not yet active
